Goals are life changing; as soon as you take the first step you have changed your circumstances forever. As coaches, we talk about dreams and goals. Which is more important? They are both important in different ways and yet both will get you to where you want to be. Take a smoker, for instance. Their goal is to stop smoking for a multitude of reasons: they will have money to spend on other things; they will live longer. What is the real reason for stopping? Surely that is where the dream comes in. Our job is to find out what makes the goal so important. After all, this is the whole point of a person wanting to achieve in the first place. The dream starts the process of change and the first step of the journey. The goals, short, medium or long term are used to get to the end of the journey.

Achieving your goals. What makes goal setting so important? Only nine percent of the population have goals. These are the most successful people. Only three percent of those with goals have written goals. They are most likely to be twice as successful as the rest of the population.
